Hello Sardis Swim & Dive Families! My name is Maddy Merz, and I am very exited to be introducing myself as your new head coach for this summer swim season! I am currently a sophomore at N.C. State University, majoring in anthropology and minoring in biological sciences. I hope to go on to law school and become a child's advocacy attorney. Working with kids has always been a passion of mine; I started as a mother's helper when I was 10 years old. Since then, I moved on to babysit, nanny during summer vacations, teach swim lessons, coach many sports (including swimming), and volunteer to help children in the community. Swimming has always been a huge part of my life, as I have been competitively swimming since I was 6 years old. I continued swimming through all four years at Providence High School and was captain of the team my senior year. I also worked as a life guard for five years and as a manager for the last two. I am currently life guard certified, CPR certified, and First Aid certified. I began teaching swim lessons my sophomore year of high school. I did so through the lifeguarding company I worked for in addition to my own private clients. For the past three years, I have taught Charlotte Latin's PE swim classes through SwimMac. I have also had many experiences coaching with swimming and various other sports. I worked for the Brace Family YMCA throughout high school and coached volleyball, soccer, lacrosse, and flag football for children aged 2-14 years old. I was also a coach for Raintree Country Club's summer league for a few years. I am very much looking forward to meeting everyone! I really appreciate you welcoming me to be a part of such a special team. I hope to create a fulfilling, uplifting, and fun summer swim team experience for everyone!
Hi, my name is Anna Gail Beard, and I am going to be one of your assistant coaches this summer! I am 20 years old and am studying Elementary Education at UNC-Charlotte. I started swimming when I was 4 years old for my summer league team back at home. When I was 6 years old, I began swimming competitively for SwimMAC and continued there until I was 12. Then, I finished out my last years of swimming at Sailfish Aquatics. I have coached my old summer league team for the past 2 years, and now, I coach the Special Olympics Cabarrus County aquatics team and have been doing so for about 5 years. I am very excited for this season to begin and to meet all of y’all!
Hey Sardis! I am very excited to be coaching the little Shrimpers again this upcoming season! Let me tell you a little bit about myself: I was raised right here in the Stonehaven community within walking distance from our pool and have been going to Sardis since I was four. I graduated from East Meck (GO EAGLES) in 2015 and am now a rising senior at East Carolina University (GO PIRATES). I am a Communications major with a concentration of Journalism in hopes of becoming a News Anchor one day. I have been swimming for Sardis since I was a Shrimp and I remember back then I couldn’t even make it across the pool and throughout the years I was able to learn and swim in relays and IM’s to help Sardis with many winning meets. I have also been a camp counselor at Sardis for seven years and a lifeguard for six years, now being the assistant manager. I am excited to be the head coach for shrimps again this year! Sardis has been like a second home for me throughout my life and I look forward to coaching a great group of kids this year! GO SHARKS!!
